Flathead Nation Technical Assistance Project

The Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) contracted with LSC Transportation Consultants, Inc. (LSC) to provide technical assistance to Flathead Nation of the Confederated Salish-Kootenai Tribes. The technical assistance specifically focuses on identifying transit needs on the Reservation and how to best provide public transportation to meet those needs.

The Flathead Nation has identified public transit as a major need for tribal members. Access to employment and services are major impediments for many tribal members. Although jobs may be available either on the Reservation or in nearby communities, many individuals do not have reliable transportation to pursue these jobs. The Nation encompasses a large geographic area with services consolidated in a few communities. Tribal members may have difficulty in accessing serves because of a lack of transportation.

Project information will be posted on this website as it becomes available. Input is sought from the community regarding transportation needs and aspects of the plan as it is developed. Comments may be sent by email to LSC.

The first Technical Memorandum is available for review. This Technical Memorandum was presented at a public meeting and a meeting of the Advisory Committee.

Technical Memorandum #2 presents possible service alternatives to be considered for the Reservation. The alternatives were presented at a public meeting and to the Advisory Committee.

The Advisory Committee selected a preferred service plan which is presented in Technical Memorandum #3. The preferred plan will be presented to the community for comment and to the Advisory Committee. Once the Advisory Committee agrees upon the preferred service plan, a Draft Report will be prepared.

The Draft Final Report incorporates the material presented in the three Technical Memoranda with changes reflecting comments from the community and the Advisory Committee. The Draft Report will be presented to the Advisory Committee on January 19.
