| Montana Statewide Rural Passenger Needs StudyLSC was selected by the Montana Department of Transportation to conduct the Montana Rural Passenger Needs Study. MDT proposed a study to develop a long-term strategy for public transportation that integrates future service requirements with the facilities and capital improvements necessary to support those demands. The purpose of this study was to identify the needs for rural public transportation services within the state. As part of this project, data were collected from transportation providers throughout the state. Survey questionnaires were sent to transportation providers. The forms may be downloaded here in either Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat format. Public Transportation Needs were estimated using methodologies appropriate for different market segments. Needs were calculated for the general public, seniors, persons with disabilities, and program-related trips. These needs were summarized by county and the level of unmet need was determined based on the current level of transit services available in each county. Once the level of unmet needs were determined, Estimates were made of the cost to provide transit services throughout the state to meet a portion of the overall needs. The Final Report is available online.
